Industrial Tape Substrates for Multiple Applications
SEKISUI Voltek offers a nearly limitless range of design possibilities for the industrial tape industry. Our products have been used successfully for many different tape applications, including removable POP (point of purchase) tapes, general-purpose mounting tapes, window glazing (SLD), thick POP mounting, profile mounting, high-bond mounting, and both low-profile and high-strength specialty tapes. In today’s blog, we will discuss the Volara® and Volextra® products, the benefits of using these foam products, and other specifications showing their versatility in the industrial tape industry.
Volara®
This closed-cell, irradiated, crosslinked polyolefin foam looks great while also providing the performance you need. It features a smooth surface and excellent gauge control, making it a reliable, versatile option for industrial tape applications. It has low water absorption and vapor transmission among its impressive physical and chemical properties, which is why it has great appeal in use for various applications. Further adding to its versatility, Volara® can be die cut, thermoformed, adhesive coated, laminated, sewn, embossed, and even printed to meet your needs. See below for more details about the various types of Volara® we offer:
Type A – Polyethylene; the most widely used Volara grade of foam; Type A meets many specifications; its superior mechanical properties and chemical resistance make it the material of choice.
Type EO – Polyethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA); greater flexibility and good adhesive anchorage characteristics
Type HP Series – High performance Volara foam with precision gauge and density control; available in densities greater than 8 pcf and a thickness range of 10 mils to 80 mils
Type G – Polyethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) with higher VA content; soft and extremely flexible
Type TS – Polyolefin alloy; for industrial pressure-sensitive adhesive applications
Type HTT – Polypropylene high thermal resistance for better thermal stability in high temperature applications.
Volextra®
By using cutting-edge technology, our Volextra® process permanently bonds solid plastic to Volara® foams, creating a highly flexible extrusion coating. We can tailor the polyolefin-based coating to your specifications with thickness options ranging from 0.0015″ to 0.055″. Volextra® adds a decorative edge while creating a composite material that is resistant to abrasion, chemicals, and moisture for superior performance in even the toughest applications. See Volextra® specifications below:
Surface Coatings – LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, EVA, PP, TPO, TPR, SURYLN, and specially formulated blends; fire retardant, UV inhibitor, anti-stat, and most color additives can be introduced into the coatings; coatings available for other substrates.
Coating Range – 2 mils to 55 mils thick depending on the coating resin chosen, up to 84″ in width
Form – Continuous rolls; extrusion coated on one-side, two-sides or between many Volara® grades
Surface Finish – Available in leather grain, burlap, glossy or matte
Thickness – 0.031″ to 2″ laminated
Foam Density – 2-12 pcf: all Volara® grades
